Cloud Base Warehousing
Introduction
As part of a recently won tender, our client had specific KPI’s they had to adhere to, otherwise they face being issued with a fine.
In order for the business to track these KPI’s they decided they required real time reporting and the reporting system that was agreed on was Power BI.
As the client also did not have a data warehouse in place, they wanted a solution that combined cloud-based data warehousing supported by Power BI reports.
What challenges did the client face?
Our client had very specific and stringent security requirements around their data.
Having no previous cloud presence meant they had to start from the ground up and seek providers that could not only deliver the reporting, but also setup a secure environment to house and transport their data.
What did we do to solve it?
CSL’s approach was to implement a modern data warehouse within Azure. This allowed us to create a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution.
Working alongside their current infrastructure team CSL also proposed how to set up a data channel between their on-premise services and Azure which met with all the required high level security standards.
With the integration of Power BI, we were able to deliver near-real-time reporting within Power BI alongside management and KPI reporting available on all platforms where Power BI existed (mobile, web, tablet).
What were the benefits for the client?
The benefits of the approach we took were that we were able to provide a system with reduced costs, as licensing and general overheads associated around a physical infrastructure were removed. Our cloud-based warehousing system was secure, even when communicating with services that exist within their current, traditional infrastructure.
We delivered near-real-time reporting within Power BI. The feedback from the client has already been overwhelmingly positive and they have been able to drive different behaviour within the company and make better everyday business decisions based on this.
Our solution was one which could scale very easily, depending on the client’s needs.
And the added benefit … sticking to the tender KPI’s.
