Power BI Update

Microsoft has recently released the January 2022 updates in line with the monthly release schedule.
Some of the updates are only preview features in Power BI desktop. To be able to view them you’ll need to ensure you’ve selected ‘Preview Features’ on the Options pane:

Here are the highlights

New Page and Bookmark Navigators

Microsoft has introduced a welcomed and much requested feature this month with the addition of New Page and Bookmark navigation options.

We have been providing this kind of enhancement for our clients for some time now. This feature was both time consuming to set up and, depending on the complexity of the model, time consuming to maintain.

This new update means developers will spend less time creating these views and styles, which will allow more time to focus on the key development.

Previously each page or bookmark needed to be set up and maintained, which is no longer required.

A more in-depth detail of the change can be found in Power BI release in the link below, but some examples are shown opposite to highlight how this could look.

This will remain customisable and we will still be able to make this look and work however our clients need it to.

The Bookmark Navigator works in the same way but uses bookmarks instead of pages, if required, dependant on the requested development.

The bookmark analysis now allows much more customisation on what shows and when.

Again, we have been doing this for clients for some time now and, although not all of what we are capable of looks to have been introduced in this update from Microsoft, it certainly helps us develop much more quickly in the initial setup stage.

Allowing bookmarks to be deselected is new too, again this was achievable but with significantly more setup!

This is one of the most helpful updates Microsoft have released for some time and is truly exciting

Sort Legend

This one may sound incredibly simple but until this point it has been very difficult to sort the legend on a visual.
Previously this was partially achievable but relied on the type of view the client wanted and if the data suited the workaround.

This is something I know some current clients will certainly be wanting to incorporate as it has been heavily requested!
