Adrenal insufficiency is a potentially fatal rare disease, disproportionately affecting young women. Often, patients present to A&E with symptoms easily confused with those of alcohol misuse, resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment. Timely, effective treatment is key to reducing downstream complications such as Addisonian Crisis, which is acute and can be life-threatening.
Advanz Pharma and CSL partnered with two leading HCPs in this field, Professor John Wass and Dr Robert Murray, to review available adrenal insufficiency data.
In this case, relevant patient episodes within NHS HES data was refined and analysed.
The objective of this project was to publish research to raise awareness of the condition among Endocrinologists.
Key findings included lower than expected follow up rates despite published guidelines, and an increasing burden of cost and bed days over the analysis period.
